Kuorolaulantaa Skypessä
Skypen kautta voisi treenata etäbändin kanssa. Tai laulaa kuorossa.

God Tonight
My internal walkman is amusing me today by playing God Tonight by Proteus.
Sometimes the most silly ditties can be rather amusing.

XMMS and symbolic links
When playing a directory, XMMS will not play the files that are symbolic links.
Yes, I know XMMS is ancient.

Olivia D - Ordinary
There's nothing everyday about you He said you stand out You got wings on your back You got bells on your toes You stand out Modern girls don't get by on their looks anymore Yeah, modern girls they take every oppurtunity knocking at their door And sometimes we all feel like ordinary people, yeah And some days we feel like we just stick out But this time it's enough to be ordinary by your side And I've got ordinary hair got an ordinary stare got an ordinary life I've got some ordinary friends(?) I've got ordinary stress and must confess If I'll see you tonight I'll wear an ordinary dress. There is a judge and a jury living in my head I trip out Said "Are you strong enough to be perfect enough? Are you gonna give up?" Actually I guess that you don't know me at all Cause I'm a modern Cinderella whose looking for a fellow to take her to the ball And sometimes we all feel like ordinary people, yeah And some days we feel like we just stick out But this time it's enough to be ordinary by your side Maybe in your eyes that's what makes me shine. I've got ordinary hair got an ordinary stare got an ordinary life I've got some ordinary friends(?) I've got ordinary stress and must confess If I'll see you tonight I'll wear an ordinary dress. And you need to know that sometimes I may fall apart Before ever, before I ever even start And you need to know I bleed to go to Heaven So I can a better a view The angels have a better view Or maybe they're just ordinary too.

Quickcam Express II
I got my Quickcam Express II working with spca5xx drivers. That was easy. Gnomemeeting now shows video. Unfortunately the video is a bit yellowish and the gnomemeeting controls for adjusting colour/brightness/contrast seem to be rather nonresponsive and always revert to the old settings if I move away from the video screen. There is probably some trick for this.

OkCupid broken
Compare feature on OkCupid is now broken and gives "WAY less" results on people who are rather similar to me, and shows them as a boring flat line. Annoying.

Accordion folded instructions
When making accordion folded instructions for a device so that the one piece of paper has instructions in multiple languages, please do layout so that I can cut one section of the accordion and get the whole instructions in the language I want.

Displaying laptops without the batteries
It annoys me that laptops in the stores are displayed without the batteries and thus they seem much lighter that they'd actually be. Maybe someone could invent a battery lock to make it harder for people to steal the batteries... or maybe the stores could just stick their regular alarm triggering stuff on the batteries of the display laptops as well.

Perunoiden haju

Further experiments on body hair
I wanted to learn which bits I prefer smooth, which hairy and why, so I did some experimentation. I cannot figure out why I didn't do it earlier. When I first got armpit hair, I watched it grow, then started shaving and kept shaving, without much thinking why. I just assumed that's what I wanted.
Now, after some experimentation I know I prefer smooth armpits for the looks and the reduced sweatiness but don't like shaving them, at least not with a razor.
I wonder how many women just shave and never have tested their own reasons for it.

Love letters
How common are love letters? I don't think I have ever received one, not even by email though there are many emails with love letterish fragments in the end.
Have you ever written one? When I stop to think about it, I'm not even sure how a love letter is defined.

Lyrics for Deliciously Evil
Deliciously Evil by State4 is a wonderful singable song... But damn it, I have not found lyrics for it!
Can you help me? The song can be heard at http://artists.iuma.com/IUMA/Bands/STATE4/

Sound recorder silence
So, Skype works fine, but I cannot get the Gnome Sound Recorder to record even a puff. I was planning to torment myself by recording my singing to see how it sounds to my biased ears.

Skype Echo123
If outgoing sound does not work nearly at all when testing with Skype Echo Sound Test Service, don't despair before you test with an actual user, too. In my case it worked just fine!

Bookcrossing pride
My bookcrossing is still doing extremely well: 12 out of 18 liberated caught! I should up my pace a bit in order to get my weeded out books to new homes.

X doesn't start
After a late night upgrade of Debian unstable yesterday, the X on aeonflux no longer starts, and there is nothing at all (and I mean nothing, that's 0 size for you doubtful) in the logs. I'm a bit busy now, so I'm happy I have the laptop on the side.

Sick little me
According to the Human Virus scanner, I suffer from:
- Linux
- Install the latest version of Microsoft Windows. Learn to love it.
- Sci-fi
- Stop wearing the stick-on ears.
- Free BSD
- The GPL isn't that bad really. Adopt a penguin at the zoo.
- Goth
- Grow up. Let your roots grow out. Listen to Britney.
- Gaming
- Life is not a game. Roll 3D6. On a 4 or more go out and do something with your life.
- Religion
- Read "God's Debris" by Scott Adams (yes, the Dilbert guy)
- 8-Bit
- Polygons, all the polygons you can get are not enough.
- UNIX
- Anything this old must be obselete. Go and install a nice modern operating system. I hear MSDOS has come a long way lately.
- Discordia
- Buy a suit. Invest your money. Eat hotdog buns on a friday.
- vi
- Escape Meta Alt Control Shift.
- Politics
- Stop caring!
- Brand Names
- Having a well-known name doesn't make it good.
- Conspiracy Theory
- Face it, the elected government is in control. Actually that's quite scary.
- Environmentalism
- Consume more stuff! It's easier to buy new stuff than to recycle.
Viruses I might suffer from:
- USA (80%)
- Rule, Britannia! Britannia rule the waves! [repeat]
- Junkfood (80%)
- Eat some real food. Something which you can identify the source of every ingredient, not the point of manufacture.
- X11 (60%)
- I hear Mac OS 10 Aqua is nice at this time of year.
- Computer Games (90%)
- Stop staring at the screen and get some fresh air. You should see a doctor about the RSI in your thumbs.
- Hippyism (93%)
- Free love is passe and potentially dangerous, and patchouli smells like cat piss.
- Macintosh (80%)
- Use a mouse with more than one button.
- Prog Rock (60%)
- Long hair looks dumb with a bald spot. Listen to CD's they don't crackle.
In short, I either suffer from just about everything or am just reasonably good at recognizing images...

Autumn loveliness
Autumn, my favourite season, is probably at its loveliest right now. I should dedicate more time in breathing it in: kicking the leaves, oogling at the colours and just smelling the air.
Sidenote: I tried to find Janka's blog entry about seasons, but failed.
